The "Whatever" Prayer
/Journal Entry #9
We would love for you all to join us in an intentional 30-day prayer.
The other night we were having dinner with my uncle Jim who along with my aunt Shannon, work for Young Life here in Germany. He was telling us about a prayer that he has practiced for many years now and was excited to tell us about the many ways God had shown up in the lives of those he was praying for. In this prayer that we are calling the “whatever” prayer, our will is removed from the equation allowing for God’s will to take center stage. Often this prayer is said for a system of people and each person involved is named specifically. For example, “Lord, be with Jon, and Bob, and Sue and please orchestrate whatever changes need to take place in their lives and this situation they are going through.” We may have a very specific outcome that we would like to see happen, yet this prayer recognizes that our perception is often narrow and does not take into account His larger vision and unfathomable wisdom.
So, if you would like to join us in starting the prayer this week, we will praying a similar prayer, but instead of for a system of people we will be praying for Colleen’s bodily systems that have been“fearfully and wonderfully made.” Obviously you can use your own words, but this may give you an idea...
Lord Jesus, we lift your daughter Colleen and her body up to You and we ask that, in the best possible way, You will orchestrate whatever changes need to take place within her DNA, cells, tissues, organs, immune system, digestive system, lymphatic system, cardiovascular system, skeletal system, muscular system, nervous system, respiratory system, endocrine system, reproductive system, chakras, energy fields, mind, heart, soul, and spirit. We ask this in your Holy name. Amen.
*Specific Prayer Request*
On Tuesday morning (August 25, 2015) at 8:30am, Colleen will be receiving her first fever therapy. She will get an IV of substances that should stimulate her immune system to respond with a high fever. Please pray that this therapy will work correctly and she will be comforted ever during the side-effects. Because of the time-changes, please pray before you go to bed Monday evening and then when you wake up on Tuesday morning. (We’ve appreciated a long-time family friend getting up in the middle of the night to pray for Colleen so that her mornings aren’t quite as hard.)
Thanks!
